Select schools will require pupils to sit either a 7+ exam (for Year 3 entry) or an 8+ exam (for Year 4 entry). Both the 7+ and 8+ exams include English and Mathematics questions and have a similar structure, though the expected attainment for pupils sitting the 8+ exam is higher. The precise content of the test varies depending on the target school. As well as a Maths and English test, pupils may also be required to sit a Reasoning test or even a separate punctuation and spelling test for 8+ exams.
